CPPC - Stander Therapy PDF Print E-mail

Many children with cerebral palsy or brain injuries can have tight hamstrings which causes irregular walking such as toes and / or heels up.

Stander TherapyAt CPPC, the stander is one of the key types of therapy we use to help correct this. The stander is a wooden frame that both supports the child and helps them maintain a good posture. Children typically spend approximately 30 minutes per session in the stander.

The main benefits of the stander are:

- maintenance and stretching of the hamstring muscle length
- distribution of the child's weight correctly through the legs and hips

Combined, the above benefits will strengthen the hips and legs and can also help to improve fine motor movement if the child is given other tasks to do while using the stander.
