Incorporating the same supporting framework as Suspension Therapy, the UGUL introduces a bench, pulleys and ropes. Using resistive weights, the UGUL strengthens muscles while reinforcing to the brain the correct pattern of movement for each limb. The UGUL is an extremely versatile piece of equipment and can be used in a multitude of other ways to benefit patients with Cerebral Palsy or brain injuries. For example, it can also be used for positioning and supporting the child on all fours in a crawling position. While this helps to build muscle tone and strength in the arms, legs and shoulders, a secondary benefit is that with the child looking straight ahead it also improves head control.
